In his memoir, A Divided Life, Todd Boler, with unflinching and rigorous honesty, takes the reader through the experience of growing up gay in a small town in Ohio that is both engaging and excruciating. I think it was Jonathan Winters who said, "If I've learned one thing from all of this, it's that we must stop landing us one at a time." Todd's story will resonate with anyone who has grown up feeling somehow different, like an alien, like somehow everyone got the message but me. It is a triumphant story of learning to accept and love oneself that everyone should read.

Poignant, funny and inspiring. I grew up in Todd's hometown and am so impressed with the vividness of his memories and his internal dialogues. He says "I never fully surrendered the core of who I was". Although I am not gay, I found my 17 yr old self and even my now 59 yr old self resonating with his story and this sentiment. I'm grateful for the honesty and vulnerability as well as the humor and grace that Todd has shared in this memoir.

Having read this, I relate to so many of the examples and issues that Todd lift through. Mine were different but also similar. I’ve known Todd for more than 30 years. And I appreciate him more than ever having read his journey. I also knew his parents. Jane and Vernon would be so thrilled for the publication of this book! And I know from my own personal interaction with them when they were living, how proud they were of Todd.
